How I Met Your Mother

Finally I’ve just finished watching nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother. The series actually has ended last year on 2014 but I have stopped watching it on 2011 and I’ve just continued it right now. During the three years, I’ve never opened any spoiler unless it was suddenly appear on my Facebook wall since I followed the site on facebook. I knew about the mother which has been revealed but I didn’t know the story behind it, because I knew that someday I will continue watching it. 

The series is a story about a guy who was telling a story to his kids about how he met their mother. There’s Ted Mosby, the main character, the guy who told the story to his kids, the man who was on a journey to find his true love. There are Marshall Erikksen and Lily Aldrin, the perfect couple which everyone dream about. There’s Barney Stinson, the playboy who do a lot of trick to get into woman’s pants. And theres Robin Scherbatsky, the hot journalist woman. The series was a sitcom which was telling a story about life, friends and love. I really, really enjoyed it the first time I watched it, it was hilarious but can be inspirative at the same time. It has many good quotes about life, about friendsihip and about love and I learnt a lot of life lessons from the series. Even after 5 or 6 seasons, I completely forget about the main story about the series, which was about Ted meeting his true love, ‘The Mother’. I just watched its episode after episode, waiting to be entertained and waiting what kind of lessons which I will get this time. The series has a lot of impact in my life, it really inspired me. Hell I even described about how I met my girlfriend based on this series. The reasons that the series touched me a lot is because apparently there are several story in the series which represented the story in my life, so I kind of found the answer from this series. And also it was telling a story which was kind of what I wanted in real life. Hanging out with friends all the time, telling story about each other, understanding each other, and be there when they needed help. I kind of wanted that. 

I will not try to go into details about the series, I assume if you read this than you’ve already know the series. To summarize it, I think it told a story of how Ted chase whom he thought the love of his life and also at the same time one of his best friends, Robin Scherbatsky for nine seasons. They have a lot of good and bad memories together. I think it was more like Friends series. There were a lot of touching moments for me after I continued watching it again. About how Ted got this mix feelings when Robin dating and marrying one of his best friends, Barney Stinson. He seemed like didn’t know how he should feel, sad because the love of his life was choosing another guy, and happy because his playboy best friends was finally found the right girl. I somehow get the feeling of how he really really want to be together with Robin, but apparently the universe didn’t let him. Up until The Mother made an appearance. 

At this time, I didn’t know of how the story will end. Will he be with the love of his life or will he be move on and finally met the right girl? And it looked like the second. The story described The Mother looked alike like Ted, about what she liked and disliked and the way she spoke. The way the story told of how Ted met The Mother seemed kind like destiny speaking. The way the future Ted explain to his kids made me make an assumtion that Robin was not their mother. So several scenarios moving in my head about how they will ended it. The best scenario that I've come up with was that Ted will ended up with The Mother, and apparently The Mother died, that’s the reason Ted telling a story to his kids about how he met their mother. And then Ted will get back together with the love of his life, Robin. But I think, it seemed kind of harsh to kill The Mother so I have just need to wait till the end of story. At that time, I'm still rooting Ted and Robin because they were perfect for each other. But also at the same time I didn’t want to end like that because it’s kind of obvious happily-ever-after ending. Once again I know that I will find an answer of my own story in here. 

And when I watched the final episode, my scenario was right. The Mother died of unknown illness, and Ted’s kids assume that their father was telling this story just an excuse of how he asked permission to go after Robin, which was totaly cool. The kids allowed it and even pushed their father to go after her. And then the story ended when Ted arrived at Robin apartment in the rain, holding a blue french horn which was their first date signature and Robin smilling over the window. And I don’t know how to react, I was expecting that the series will ended with something magical, totally beyond what everyone was thought. I was hoping that there will be some twist that surprise me. A lot of fans were also furious about the ending. And the producer decided to release an alternate ending of where the stories ended when Ted decided to hit on The Mother and ended with the narrative told that they woke up every morning beside each other and saying “And kids, that’s how I met your mother” 

So there are two ending, the one where Ted got ended up with Robin, and the other one where The Mother didn’t die and becoming Ted’s true love. There were a lot of debating which one is the perfect ending, but for me, either way worked for me. I found the answer of my own questions. Eventhough the series was about finding the right one, I guess I have to agree with one of the quotes I found on internet. “Love is not about finding the right person. It’s about becoming the right person.”
