Bangkok - part 2 (finished)

Day 2
We started the day with breakfast at the hotel. The breakfast was very nice, they served many type of food. There are three type eggs, scrambled eggs, omellete, sunny side up. There are also some western food, vegetarian food, thai food, cereal, some pastry, pancakes, fruit and they even prepared many type of sauce such as tomato sauce, chili sauce, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and ground black pepper to complete your meal. It was a very nice breakfast.

Shopping is our next to do list, so we went straight to Platinum Fashion Mall. We spent several hours shopping some clothes, snacks and had lunch in there. The food court used coupon and served many choices of food. The food was not bad but of course not as good as the Chocolate Ville’s. My girlfriend did not find what she’s looking for so we went to Pratunam Market. Pratunam Market sold a lot of fashion goods with cheaper price than Platinum Mall, but it is an open market and outdoor location. Several good is cheaper when you buy in bulk and finally she got several things she was looking for in here. An open market is only nice if it’s not raining, which is unfortunately not for me.While we started to explore the market, it started to rain. So after we found several things to buy, we went back to the hotel. After half hour, the rain finally stopped.

Asiatique
Our next destination is Asiatique. It can be reached using BTS to Saphan Taksin and then continue by boat. After arriving in Saphan Taksin continue left until you see the sign of Asiatique. It provides a free shuttle boat but remember, the free shuttle boat only for a boat which has Asiatique written in it. If you take the wrong boat then you need to pay. Asiatique is like a night market, but I don’t suggest you buy things in there since the price can be quite expensive compare to Pratunam. I remember eating Mochi Ice Cream during my previous visit which is very delicious. But before that, we need to have dinner first. After circling around for a while, we decided to eat in iPho, a thai and vietnamese cuisene. And I was very disappointed with the food, I think it was the worst food that I ate during my visit to Bangkok. The food was quite oily, and in my girlfriend’s I could taste a ginger in it which is something we both didn’t eat. After having the not-so-good dinner we finally found the mochi ice cream, it’s called Kane Mochi, it cost 25 baht for a piece and 98 baht if you buy 4 pieces. After we finished eating, we went to visit NaRaYa store. I remembered that this store was very crowded no matter where it opened, it usually full with Taiwanese people, up till now, I still don’t understand what makes it so attractive. After buying a couple of things in NaRaYa, we decided it’s time to go back since it’s already 10 pm. We arrived at Siam station at 11.30 pm where there was no bus anymore, so we had to walk from there to our hotel which took us about 15 minutes.

Day 3
Madame Tussauds was our next destination, so after having breakfast we went straight to Siam Station by bus. Something strange happened here, while we try to find the location by using google maps by walking beside the street, a middle aged man suddenly approached us, he looked like 40 years old and asking where we want to go, his english was quite good and he said that he was a teacher and it made sense considering his fluent english. I explain to him that we wanted to go to Madame Tussauds and he said that we went to the wrong direction and pointing us the opposite direction of where we were standing at that time, he said that this day was a national budhist day (or something like that) and Madame Tussauds won’t be open until 11.30 am. I started to worry because our ticket is an early bird which made us had to arrive before 12 pm. There’s almost 1.5 hour gap and he recommended us to go to Wat Arun, explaining things that we can do at that place. Since it was located far away from we were and considering I have gone to that place before so I was particularly not interested anymore about what he was saying. He explained about getting there by tuk tuk, how much it cost and the difference between normal tuk tuk and government tuk tuk. He explained that using government tuk tuk was much cheaper than normal tuk tuk while normal tuk tuk can cost around 2,000 bahts to go to Wat Arun while government tuk tuk only cost 80 baht. So after some explaining we decided that we prefered to go to other places and he accepted it. We went to the direction which he had pointed to us before and we find out that Madame Tussauds is located inside the Siam Square mall, and it had already opened. So that man had been lying to us by saying that Madame Tussauds opened at 11.30 pm.

Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is famous for its lifelike wax figure. I recommend that you visit this place if you have never visited it before. You can buy the ticket online at www.madametussauds.com and buy the early bird ticket which costs 480 baht for a person, but you have to arrive there before 12 pm in the afternoon. Madame Tussauds in Bangkok contains many famous figure, from political figure (Soekarno, Putin, Obama) Science and art (Einstein) Sports (Beckham, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Tiger Woods, Yao Ming), Music star (Jay Chou, Teresa Teng, Katy Perry, Michael Jackson) up to celebrity figure (Anthony Hopkins, Bruce Lee, Brad Pitt, Nicolas Cage) I really enjoyed my visit there. After finish from Madame Tussauds, we decided to have lunch at Siam Paragon. Siam Paragon is very large and and it sell many branded goods, it targets the upper class people, so if you’re not really the branded type guy like me, you can skip Siam Paragon. We went to the food court which was located at the bottom floor. It was very crowded, and we choose noodle this time. My girlfriend ordered the barbeque pork noodle for 70 baht, and I ordered the crispy pork, duck, wonton noodle for 95 baht. You need to top up first since the food court used card for their payment system. Upon finishing our lunch, my girlfriend found Garret popcorn and bought it first before going back. The Chicago Mix is my recommendation since it combined salty and sweety popcorn.

Due to raining yesterday, we decided to continue our shopping time back in Pratunam Market. After buying several things and our legs have given up, we decided to go back to the hotel. At that time, we can still enjoyed its swimming pool for a while. When dinner time came up, at first we decided to go to Platinum Mall to its food court, but sadly the food court almost closed at the time, we didn’t know that Platinum closed at 8 pm. But at that time, Bangkok has a vegetarian food festival located in front of the entrance of Platinum mall. So we decided to try Bangkok street food, we buy Mango Sticky Rice for 70 baht, and we went back to the hotel and find out that the street in front of our hotel sold several street food. We bought 2 pork skewers for 10 baht each, 3 chickens in a skewer for 50 baht, 1 meatball skewers and 3 squid skewers for 10 baht each and ate it in our room.

Day 4

It was our last day in Bangkok, and since it was Saturday and my flight scheduled at 9 pm, we still have a lot of time to explore. We decided to go to the famous Chatucak weekend market. After finishing our breakfast, we went straight to Chit Lom Station and continued to Mo Chit station where Chatucak is located. Just followed the crowd and we arrived at the entrance of Chatucak. Chatucak is an open market and looked like a maze if you didn't have a map with you. You could spend a lot of time in here just by walking around. Almost everything can be found in here, they sold fashion, shoes, accesories, ceramic, they even sold pet in here. We explored the market for a while before buying several things. After we felt enough, we went back to Siam Paragon and decided to visit its food court once again and we ate the same menu once again before going back to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel, we went to the concierge where we kept our luggage after checking out and started to rearrange our things. And then the hotel was helping us by calling a taxi for us to go straight to Don Muang Airport.
